In the original version of the script, Merrick committed suicide to escape being turned into a vampire by Lothos, who wanted to know the Slayer's identity so he could dispatch with her. more
Goofs:
Audio/visual unsynchronized: After Buffy punches Merrick, she gives her "Marry Christian Slater and die" speech. The reverse angle of Merrick shows Buffy's lips still moving, even though no dialogue is heard. more

This is a terribly fun movie. The acting is deliberately over the top and does quite well. Everyone from Swanson to Perry to Reubens to Stephen Root does an excellent job. I don't understand people who didn't like this - it's simply fun.
